Sorbonne University signs the DORA Agreement

Sorbonne University is now a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
This international initiative aims to change evaluation methods by diversifying the evaluation criteria and giving priority to the quality of scientific production rather than strictly quantitative indicators linked to the reputation of journals. This decision was taken at the Research Commission meeting of April 7, 2022.

By signing the Declaration, Sorbonne University commits to adopt, in its research evaluation practice, the principles of the San Francisco Declaration. These principles are in line with the position paper adopted by Sorbonne University on February 4, 2021 on the "Policy for the promotion of open science actions in the internal evaluation of research within the university".

In this text, the institution affirmed its desire to "develop the criteria and methods of internal evaluation of research results, in line with its strong commitment to open science and free access to publications", asking that the following be given priority and be taken into account during the internal evaluation:

-    the content and intrinsic quality of the research work;
-    open access publication;
-    the opening of research data;
-    the dissemination of knowledge;
-    other actions in favor of open science.

By joining the DORA initiative, Sorbonne University is thus acknowledging all the measures taken in favor of an open, fair and responsible evaluation of research, while giving these commitments an international dimension. At the same time, in the wake of the Paris Appeal of February 4, 2022, Sorbonne University joined the European coalition of research funding agencies, universities and evaluation authorities who wish to act in favor of a reform of the research evaluation system.
