M2 - Optics, materials in Paris

The aim of the "Optics, Matter in Paris" program is to provide students with advanced scientific and technical training in the fields of optics, lasers, atoms and molecules, and matter-radiation interaction.

The Optics and Matter course in Paris offers a professional theme ("Master in Optical Engineering ») and a research theme ("Light, Matter, Interactions »).

The Optics, Matter in Paris program is the largest training program in the Île-de-France region in the field of optics and light-matter interaction. It is associated with approximately forty research laboratories and numerous companies (start-ups, SMEs, major groups).

Job opportunities

At the end of the program, students have a broad range of skills enabling them to join either a company or a fundamental or applied research laboratory. These areas of the research pathway combine the skills of most laboratories in the Paris region, opening up a wide range of professional horizons. The professional pathway prepares students for careers combining optics and materials, in both photonics and biomedical optics.

Organization

Research pathway: this course comprises a core curriculum (September-December), followed in January-February by optional units (4 options to choose from a panel of around 20 in the fields of lasers and optoelectronics, imaging, nanophotonics, quantum optics, ions, atoms and molecules) and concludes with a minimum 4-month internship that starts in March.

Each year, students in the program choose their internship from over 200 proposals. The list of proposed internships can be consulted on the course internship website.

Vocational pathway: this course is divided into two paths, one in photonics/solar energy and the other in biomedical optics. The last six months are devoted to an internship with a company.
