  • Lola Cañamero (School of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire) works on robots’ expression of emotions.

  • Raja Chatila heads the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics (ISIR) at Sorbonne University

Sexual robot designer Sergi Santos recently announced that Samantha, one of his creations, has the ability to refuse her human partner if she does not feel respected or does not want him.

Behind this publicity stunt, where is the synthesis of emotions in robots, their ability to read our emotions and express their own? What purpose does it have, beyond the controversial appeasement of various human drives? Is the proximity, or even confusion, that could develop between humans and humanoids, a threat to our humanity?

The discussion will take place between Lola Cañamero and Raja Chatila and led by Hervé Morin, journalist at Le Monde.
