The Rectors of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) elected Prof. Jean Chambaz, president of Sorbonne University, as their new Chair on May 19, 2018.

The LERU is a well-established network of research-intensive universities. The League develops and disseminates views on research, innovation and higher education through policy papers, statements, meetings and events, helping to shape policy at the EU level. The League is a strong, outspoken voice of European research-intensive universities on a wide range of topics related to EU policies and initiatives.
Founded in 2002, the LERU brings together 23 European intensive research universities, including three French universities (Sorbonne University, Paris-Sud and Strasbourg). Prior to the merger that created Sorbonne University, UPMC was an active contributor to these policy discussions within the League for many years.  This election is a confirmation of Sorbonne University’s continuing role in the LERU for the development of the European Higher Education Area.
