Visiting Professors 4EU+ 2026: experience a research and teaching placement in Europe

The 4EU+ European University Alliance is launching the fourth edition of its ‘4EU+ Visiting Professorships’ programme, designed to strengthen collaboration in research and education between the Alliance’s member universities.

This programme offers academic staff the opportunity to undertake a 3-week to 1.5-month funded stay at another 4EU+ university to carry out joint educational and research activities.

The scheme aims to develop new partnerships or strengthen existing links between member universities, whilst promoting the exchange of knowledge and skills across Europe.

Applicants are encouraged to design and implement projects involving the academic communities of both their home university and their host institution. These activities may involve research communities, students and PhD candidates, and may be open to the participation of colleagues and teams from other universities within the 4EU+ Alliance.

As part of its ongoing strategy to support the next generation of researchers within the Alliance, the 2026 edition of the programme offers two funding streams:

•    Early Career Visiting Professorships, aimed at researchers at the start of their careers who obtained their PhD between 2 and 10 years prior to the project start date (January 2027);

•    Standard Visiting Professorships, open to the wider academic community.

Through this programme, 4EU+ supports the development of ambitious joint initiatives that strengthen European integration in the fields of research, education and training.

Key information for applicants:

Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent members of the academic staff at Sorbonne University.

Funding: A lump-sum allowance, including the daily or monthly allowances in force at the home university, is provided to cover accommodation and living expenses. Only one travel allowance will be granted, regardless of the number of journeys made.
