Migration and Europe: A Tale of Two Stories

In an era of abundant information yet fragmented understanding, the 4EU+ European University Alliance is hosting a conference to explore the contrast between media narratives and statistical realities regarding migration. On 29 April 2026, Arthur Erken, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at the International Organization for Migration, will lecture on "Migration and Europe: a tale of two stories."

  • On April 29th

  • 12:15 - 13:00
  • Lecture
  • University of Geneva or online

The lecture

The event will take place at the University of Geneva, with an online option available for remote attendees. Arthur Erken, who brings extensive experience from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities and the International Organization for Migration, will draw on field-based insights to challenge common perceptions and foster an evidence-based discussion. The lecture will examine the tensions between media narratives, statistical data, public debate, and personal lived experiences.

This event offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with an expert on the forefront of migration issues, moving beyond headlines to understand the lived experiences shaping Europe today.
