Paying the CVEC contribution before university enrolment
Before enrolling at the university, all students enrolling in an initial higher education programme must pay the compulsory annual Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC) to the CROUS.

Tuition fees
The amount for tuition fees (also referred to as enrolment fees or university fees) is set by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the French Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Enrolment fees for the 2026/2027 academic year*:
Bachelor’s degree programmes: €178
Master’s degree programmes: €255
Doctoral programmes: €398
Engineering programmes: €630

All students enrolling in initial higher education programmes at the university must comply with the application and enrolment deadlines set by the university’s governance.
Tuition fees for international students
Since 2019, the French government has introduced differentiated tuition fees for non-EU students enrolling in higher education institutions to obtain a national degree.
• French nationals.
• Nationals of a Member State of the European Union, the European Economic Area, Monaco, Andorra, Quebec or Switzerland.
• Students enrolling in a doctoral programme, a third-cycle programme in health studies or an accreditation to supervise research (HDR) programme.
• Students who hold refugee or subsidiary protection status, or whose father, mother or legal guardian holds such status.
• Students under 18 years of age whose parents or legal guardians hold a residence permit.
• Holders of a long-term residence permit issued by the French authorities.
• Holders of a residence permit marked "Residence permit for a family member of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen".
• Students who have been resident in France, or who are part of a tax household that has been resident in France, for at least two years.
• Students enrolled in a Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Écoles (CPGE).
• Students enrolled in a University Diploma programme at Sorbonne University.
• Students enrolled at Sorbonne University during the 2025/2026 academic year who are re-enrolling in the same cycle of study.
• They receive a state-funded higher education grant, including means-tested grants and French Government grants awarded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
• They are enrolling under an agreement with a foreign institution that exempts French students hosted by that institution from paying tuition fees.
• They are enrolling in a course that forms part of a European or international programme for hosting students through international exchange schemes.
Non-EU students who are subject to differentiated tuition fees but are not automatically exempt may apply for an exemption.
The Exemption Committee will assess each application on the basis of the information provided, including:
• Personal financial resources
• State of health
• Geographical distance from their family home
• Family difficulties or social isolation
• Disability
Students in any of the following categories may also apply for a full exemption from university fees:
• Refugee status
• Asylum seeker status
• Stateless status
• Enrolment during the current academic year in the DU RESPE programme
• Recipient of subsidiary or temporary protection.
To ensure that eligible students can benefit from an exemption within a reasonable timeframe, Sorbonne University has established a specific procedure to facilitate the processing of applications.
